Istanbul (also known as Constantinople or Byzantium) is one of the world’s most momentous cities, having served as the capital of no less than 3 empires (the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman) and was one of the landmark cities on St. Paul’s mission to spread Christianity throughout the ancient world. Our full day bus tour will take you on a memorable exploration of a truly unique metropolis and one of the most influential hubs for trade, art and religion. We will journey into the heart of Istanbul’s Old City, a treasured UNESCO World Heritage Site, to wonder at the architectural magnificence of the Blue Mosque (built in the 17th century) and the unparalleled grace of the Hagia Sofia, the world’s largest cathedral for 1,000 years.  The Holy Spirit Cathedral, an impressive Roman Catholic edifice, is a dazzling example of the Christian presence and influence in Istanbul. You will also have a chance to see the Hippodrome of Constantinople, the social and sporting centre of the Byzantium’s golden age. As we enter the Topkapi Palace you will surely by enchanted by its assortment of buildings, passages and gardens, all testimony to the might and wealth of the Ottoman sultans which have inhabited the palace for 400 years. The exceptional collection of Chinese porcelain, dating back to the 10th century, displayed at the palace is considered to rival only collections available in China. A stop at the Konyali Restaurant will allow you to indulge in the flavorful local cuisine, as you admire the royal residence in all its glory. We will end our immersion in the fabulous imperial capital with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, where you will have free time to explore, bargain for your favorite souvenir or enjoy an authentic Turkish coffee.
